Bigger Than The Game
About Bigger Than the Game
At Bigger Than the Game, our mission is to help families build a stronger relationship with Christ through the powerful combination of faith and sports. We understand that in today’s busy world, it can be challenging to find meaningful moments to connect with your children, which is why we offer weekly, biblically-based basketball stories designed to equip and inspire families to raise children of character, faith, and determination.
Our Purpose
Our aim is to teach children the invaluable life lessons that sports can offer while embedding a strong foundation in the Bible. Whether it’s a game-winning shot or a tough loss, every experience on the court is an opportunity for growth, and we use storytelling to help young minds understand and navigate these lessons. Through these stories, families can come together, not only to bond over sports but also to engage in meaningful conversations about life, faith, and what it truly means to be a champion, both on and off the court.
A Personal Journey
The story behind Bigger Than the Game is deeply personal. Growing up, I loved sports—whether it was football, basketball, or baseball—but it was only after facing the pain of pregnancy loss and the blessing of twins in 2009 that I began to truly understand how precious and impactful these moments are. With the arrival of two more children and my own journey as a father, I began coaching my kids, other children in the community, and working as a substitute teacher—all while balancing a full-time career as a firefighter. My experience coaching and mentoring children in both sports and life showed me the incredible impact that athletics can have on a child’s development, but it also revealed how sports could become a burden on families and hinder kids’ growth when not approached thoughtfully.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of intentional conversations with children—conversations that teach them lessons, rather than just telling them how to act. As a believer, I also know that God used parables to teach valuable lessons, and I wanted to bring that approach into the lives of young athletes and their families.
Core Values and Beliefs
We believe the Bible is our guiding light, and it is essential to teach our children not only to follow us as parents but to follow Christ through His Word. At some point, our influence as parents will fade, and it’s vital that our children have a solid foundation in the Bible to guide them through life. Through Bigger Than the Game, we aim to make the Bible the ultimate source of strength and wisdom for young people—helping them become not only better athletes but also strong, compassionate individuals.
What We Offer
Each week, we deliver a short, engaging basketball story via an electronic format, designed to be quick yet impactful, so families with busy schedules can easily incorporate these lessons into their daily routines. These stories come with thought-provoking questions that open the door to real conversations with your kids—conversations about faith, life choices, and values—before the challenges of life even arise.
Through these stories, children develop stronger mindsets, a better understanding of biblical teachings, and a deep-rooted connection to their faith. They will learn to face obstacles with determination and courage, becoming true champions, both on and off the court.
Our Vision for the Future
As Bigger Than the Game continues to grow, our goal is to support even more families in raising the next generation of leaders and athletes who are grounded in faith, resilience, and character. We want to be a light to families who are looking for meaningful ways to integrate faith and sports into their children’s lives—creating a space where parents and children can grow together.
