Revelation Chapter 1: Jesus Is Bigger Than We Think
For Parents and Children
Revelation can seem like a big, mysterious book—but it starts with something powerful and clear: a vision of Jesus that reminds us He is not small, weak, or far away. He is alive, full of glory, and in charge of everything.
John, one of Jesus’ closest friends, is now an old man living in exile on an island called Patmos. Suddenly, Jesus appears to him—not as the gentle teacher he once walked with, but as the glorious King of Heaven. His eyes are like fire, His voice is like rushing water, and His face shines like the sun. It’s amazing—and even a little scary!
But Jesus puts His hand on John and says:
“Don’t be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One.” (Revelation 1:17–18)
For parents, this chapter reminds us that Jesus is still in control, even when the world feels chaotic. He holds the keys of life and death, and He’s not overwhelmed by what overwhelms us. That truth gives us courage to lead our families with peace instead of panic.
For children, Revelation 1 helps them see that Jesus is more than a baby in a manger or a man on a cross. He’s alive forever—and He’s powerful, kind, and present. When life gets scary or confusing, we can remember: Jesus is near, and He is King.
